a homeschool recipe

Thank you to Tara of The Organic Sister for sharing her Homeschool Recipe this week. Tara and family live in Nevada where they are passionate about unschooling, homesteading, peaceful parenting, gardening, and sustainable living.

                                  Tara's Recipe

Every unschooled life is different, every outcome individual. But there are some similarities and some things I wouldn't suggest going without. Here's our recipe for Living an Inspired Life.

Ingredients:

- 5 Deep Breaths before you take the plunge
- 3 heaping helpings of Trust (added often for best outcome)
- Handfuls of Precious Time (quality time, free-time and/or quiet time all mix well)
- Many sources of Laughter
- A Library Card
- Internet Connection with direct link to Google (available at library)
- Several dashes of love from friends and family

- Optional to taste: magnifying glasses, microscopes, empty boxes, paint, art supplies, penpals, LEGOS (or Magnetix or K'NEX), trampolines, cameras, magnets, hiking guides, baking soda and vinegar, memberships to zoos and museums, a radio, cookbooks, seeds, movies, games, pets, costumes and makeup, barefeet, Mentos and diet soda, swimming pools, fire crackers, bicycles, YouTube, pots, pans, utensils, hugs and kisses, bedtime stories, etc.

Mix copious portions into your day. Don't hesitate to get creative, adding or omitting Optional Ingredients to amend the flavor of the moment. Before long you'll be devouring the benefits of Life Learning and wondering how you ever managed without it.

I found you through Soulemama. I loooove your website. It speaks the sentiments of my heart as I am a stay-at-home-unschooling mom of six children. You are such an inspiration and such a great reminder that we all need to slow down, take deep breaths, and just enjoy the moment. Children truly do grow up so fast. Thank you again.

I love the supply list especially baking soda and vinegar. My ten year old loved to make volcanos or launch containers. Oh how I wish my husband was on board with homeschool, I just supplement their school studies.

found you through soulemama too! Lovely post. I have four children, all at home. Can you come here and be our Prime Minister please? He is hell bent on stamping out unschooling, and putting structure into all of our lives :(

I will come back here for a regular nose.

i'm just curious, as i am new to the technicalities of unschooling/homeschooling. i have almost 4 year old twins and wondering how it works with like the school systems and doctors all wondering "why aren't they in school?!" and if you have to contact a specific place to :keep track" or whatever. i dunno, can someone enlighten me please? (i think i initially started at the flickr group for dreadlocks and somehow got here) my pregnant mind is having a bit of a lapse, forgive me :)
